Times are tough, aren’t they?
As a nation, we’re not where we were two years ago. Things have drastically changed. Sobering,
isn’t it? It all seemed so sudden. As our minds go back over our situation, we think, “If I had
just known, then I would have...”.
But we didn’t know.
What about you, Beloved? Are you troubled about where we are headed? What’s going to
happen? How you’re going to make it economically? How you will survive the heartache?
I can honestly tell you that although I do not know what’s going to happen, I’m filled with a sense
of anticipation. God has a purpose. After all these years of studying inductively, studying the
history of Israel, listening to the voice of God’s prophets, and observing God in action, I know Him.
I know Him because I know His Word. I know He’s sovereign over nature, over the economy,
over every calamity, and over the election. And it is in this knowledge that I find comfort,
hope, and joyful, purposeful anticipation.
God has a purpose in what is happening in the United States of America and in our personal
circumstances. This is our hour, as children of God, to demonstrate the veracity of His
Word. To prove to others the sufficiency of His grace, to be His answer to prayer and give
ourselves without hesitation to His kingdom purposes.
I’m so excited because I also see His sovereignty in the timing of our new series. On January 19th we will begin Comfort For His People—Isaiah Part 2. Oh my friend, make sure to download your free Study Guide and get a head start on the study. It will be available after January 12. So many have stopped to tell me what Isaiah is meaning to them—and the best of Isaiah is about to come—hope, comfort, and a sure knowledge of a sure future.
God wants to wrap His arms of truth around you. He wants to comfort you. To tell you from
His Word that because He is God, whatever comes your way is going to work together for your
good and His glory (Romans 8:28-39).
So…“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you for I
am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will
uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).
This is our hour to shine—to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of our God seen in
the face of Christ living in you, the hope of glory. Let’s not miss it by being ignorant of or
disobedient to His Word!

Discovering truth for yourself, going Deeper in Bible study with others, Discipling others through
Bible study is something anyone can do. Really. Trust me. You don’t have to go to seminary to
learn to study the Bible. You don’t have to be a genius, specially talented, or gifted. All you need
is the Holy Spirit in you, a desire to learn God’s Word—the Bible, and a few tips and techniques that
anyone can learn.
Studying the Bible is like learning to ride a bicycle—you can do it, but you need some practice with
someone holding on to steady you. Once you’ve gained balance, you’re ready to pedal off in confidence.
Training Workshops are offered all over the U.S. and in many countries to help you learn how to study
the Bible so you can live a life based on God’s Word. And for those who are gifted and called to lead
Bible studies, we have workshops to teach you how to lead effective and dynamic discussions so others
can discover truth for themselves. Here’s a sample of what you’ll learn:
Read the following verses from 1 John 4, and circle the word “love”:
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves
is born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God,
for God is love. 9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent
His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.
Now read over the passage again, and each place you marked “love,” ask what we call the 5 W and H
questions, who, what, when, where, why, and how. Just like an investigator, interrogate the text; make
it confess the truth.
In verse 7, what are we to do? Where is love from? Why are we to love? What is true about everyone who
loves? Simply look at where you’ve marked “love” to find the answers.
In verse 8, what do we learn about God? Who does not know God? In verse 9, how is God’s love manifested?
If you make a list of the answers to these questions, you’ve started learning three basic techniques of
Observation, the first step of study. These three are: 1) marking key words to see their repetition and
thus their importance to the message, 2) asking the 5 Ws and H to read with a purpose, and 3) listing
what you learned.
In Training Workshops we’ll hold on while you practice these until you’re confident, and we’ll
introduce you to other techniques too. We’ll train you in careful observation, accurate interpretation,
and powerful application to your life. Then you can put these into practice in your study and discover
truth for yourself!
Our Training Workshops will help you develop study and leadership skills and will equip you to disciple others. We encourage you to attend a workshop at Precept Ministries campus in Chattanooga, or to find a Training Workshop in your area.

7 Steps Toward a Better New Year
How many times have you made them, and change never happened? Do you keep striving
toward a better life, a life full of joy, but you keep suffering from constant failure, constant
disappointment? Change is possible. Resolve to walk in these precepts and God’s peace and joy will abide in your heart despite the obstacles you may face in the days ahead.
-
Begin Your Day By Giving Thanks!
Would you consider yourself a negative person? Learn to be a person who is grateful, one who is
thankful for even the smallest things. “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (I Thessalonians 5:16-18).
-
Praise Him Daily.
When disappointment comes, praise Him! When blessings come, praise Him! Praise Him by reading
His Word back to Him. “I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth”
(Psalms 34:1).
-
Make Prayer a Priority In Your Life.
If you desire God’s power in your life, determine to make prayer a priority. “In the morning, Oh Lord, You will hear my voice; in the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch” (Psalm 5:3). See our great selection of products on prayer.
-
Decide What Bible Studies You Will Study for the Year.
Often we can live our lives with good intentions, but never do the things we know we should do. Make certain you’re studying the Word of God. We can help assist you with finding the right Bible Study materials to fit your needs. “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).
-
Find Your Place of Service in the Church.
What has God called you to do and uniquely equipped you for? Are you using the spiritual gifts God has given you? Learn what the Bible teaches about how you fit in Christ’s body, the Church. For information about Precept’s one day workshop, Finding Your Place of Service in the Church.
-
Make Biblical Financial Decisions.
God’s Word has a lot to say about how we handle our money. Part of God’s measurement for our lives will be how we steward the financial resources He entrusts to us. Order your copy of Money and Possessions: the Quest for Contentment online, or call 800.763.1990 (television), 888.734.7707(radio).
-
Learn to Live a Healthy Lifestyle.
Every New Year the gyms are full of people making their New Year’s resolutions to lose weight. Don’t
simply choose to lose weight; choose to live a healthy life. If you feel better, you live better. God’s
Word tells us that we are to have self-control in all things
(I Corinthians 9:25).

Coming Up Next on Precepts For Life
If you’ve been challenged by our study of Isaiah so far, don’t miss the encouragement of the rest of
the story. The first 39 chapters of this book show God’s judgment on His people for disobedience
and rebellion. As the prophet Isaiah said, “Justice is turned back, and uprightness stands far away;
for truth has stumbled in the streets.” But in chapters 40-66 the Lord told Isaiah to speak kind
words to Israel. He wanted to comfort His people with His words. After their punishment for sins,
there will be great restoration for them. This study will give you a taste of the world’s future.
Comfort for His People, Isaiah Part 2

"I used to live on a small island in the middle of the Atlantic
Ocean. It’s the Azores. And we didn’t have a Christian
bookstore, but we had Bibles. [That’s all you need] if you
know how to study inductively and the Precept Training has
helped me with that. I was able to show other people how
to study the Bible, with the Bible. The enthusiasm of coming
here [to a Training Workshop] and seeing people from all
over the world, all over the country, motivates me to go
back and take this to my church!" Veronica Martin, North Carolina |
