Precept Korea Begins with Teaching One…Today 45,000 Pastors and Laymen Have Been Trained

God has mightily used Kyung Sup and Bok Soon [Directors of PMI Korea] to impact His Kingdom in South Korea. What started as humble beginnings in a one room apartment training and teaching just one person in 1987, has now exploded into a large ministry impacting the lives of thousands.

In 2004, Precept Korea with the Precept Church opened a Training Center in the suburbs of Seoul, Korea. They have sent 30 Korean missionaries to other countries, providing Precept materials for them to feed themselves and the people they serve.

In September 2009, Precept Ministries Korea will begin studying 2 Timothy Precept Upon Precept with Korean pastors as training for preparing sermon material for their churches. Training will include teaching pastors how to study each lesson and use the lessons as a tool in creating sermons to preach. In most Korean churches, prosperity teaching is rampant and church size, not Bible study, is the main interest of pastors.

Precept Korea has been training pastors for several years to change their messages and goals to be biblically based by using Precept Upon Precept Bible Studies. Precept Korea has been using the Precept Upon Precept Inductive Bible Studies to teach pastors how to create expository sermons with the lessons they have studied. This has helped pastors understand how to use their Bibles to prepare for sermons instead of relying solely on other sources like commentaries, other pastors’ sermons, or news articles. The opportunity for pastors to learn and study using the Inductive Bible Study Method and Precept Upon Preceptstudies also allows them to share about Precept Korea and the Inductive Study Method to other church leaders and lay people who would not be open to learning from others outside of their church.

By instructing pastors how to study for themselves, Precept Korea is also enabling them to teach their congregations how to study the Bible. Join Precept Ministries International in praying for Korea. Pray these Korean pastors will continue to use Precept Upon Precept Bible studies to help in preaching the Word of God.

Prayerfully consider Partnering with Precept to continue it’s impact around the world…

Transform Student Ministries

Leading the Next Generation

Ritchie JohnsonYou Want to Work With Students?

Ritchie JohnsonDirector, Transform Student Ministries

I get a pretty entertaining reaction when I tell people that God has called me to work with students. Reactions often sound like “Well God bless ya because I can’t handle that.” But some of you feel the same way, an unmistakable passion for the younger generation and the energetic spark that comes with them. If I’m speaking your language, then here are a few beginning tips when working with and discipling younger students.

Tips on Working With and Discipling Students…

  1. Students are relational.
Make time to spend with students outside of an hour of Bible study each week. Hang out at the coffee shop, go see a movie, play some ping-pong or watch a football game together! The point is, they need to spend time with you to be assured that you really care. Please keep in mind though that you need to be beyond reproach when spending time with students. Do so in intentional group situations, and be careful when different genders are involved.

  2. When working with students, you must be flexible.
The perfect setting for a student Bible study is just as likely to be the coffee shop as the church, or maybe the floor of someone’s living room. Also be prepared to adapt your methods of presentation. By being flexible with the pacing, you may reach students with the Word of God that would not do five lessons each week with a discussion group. By knowing your students and being flexible with the inductive method, you can teach any group in any setting with any amount of time!

  3.  Students (and all of us) need to serve.
At Precept, our mission is to establish students in God’s Word so that they will become exemplary followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. Good Bible study should result in an outpouring of God’s goodness onto others. By incorporating service opportunities into your discipleship group, you’ll be modeling the Christian life as you serve side by side with your students. Students desire the authenticity demonstrated in service!
