Africa: A multiplying impact

Mar 30, 2022

Study is meant to be shared. Often, when people discover the joys and riches of Bible study for the first time, they can’t keep news like that to themselves.

Across the world, Precept students are taking what they’ve learned and are inviting others to join them. Not even a global pandemic can slow the reach of God’s Word.

This month, we want to share two inspiring reports from Africa to encourage you. As a Precept partner, your support is making an eternal difference—and your impact is only multiplying!

Madagascar Institute

In November, a group of Precept students gathered together for a Precept Institute in Madagascar. The session had virtual and in-person options, which allowed people from across the region to attend and learn from God’s Word.

One student arrived at the Institute from Comoros, a predominantly Islamic republic in the Indian Ocean.

Each day, the Precept students worked diligently on their coursework together, often staying up late into the night. If the unreliable electricity went down while they were working, they would pull out their cellphones for light to keep studying.

This student traveled by bus for over two days to attend the Precept training.

As part of each Institute, students go out into the surrounding neighborhoods and invite people to join them in a Bible study. One student headed to a local store where some mothers and children were gathered. The Precept student modified the study questions so the children could easily participate, and the kids responded with excitement and enthusiasm. One of the children even asked for her own copy of the assignment so she could share it with her parents at home.

From this meeting, an opportunity opened to start a Bible study group with these women and their children! And this was just the beginning. So far, 34 new Bible study groups have started, with some pastors starting Precept studies with their entire congregations. An estimated 6,800 people are being impacted by the students of this one Institute session, and the numbers keep growing!

Nigeria Women’s Conference

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, planning events has been a logistical nightmare for the team in Nigeria. Restrictions change from one day to the next and vary depending on region. With the country continuously facing unpredictable lockdowns, partnering with other ministries is more crucial than ever.

By partnering with like-minded organizations, the local Precept team expands the reach of their Bible study training while also gaining extra resources to help events happen as scheduled.

One of the recent partnership events was a Women’s Marriage Conference geared towards key leaders in the area. Seventy women came together to spend a day working through Marriage Without Regrets, and as they learned from God’s Word, they also learned how to lead others to do the same.

Under the discipling guidance of the Precept team, each participant was given an opportunity to lead discussion in a small group setting. This training helped them build confidence and showed them how they can coach other women through this study back home.

As a result of this training, 10 new Bible study groups have already started with over 105 students on a weekly basis—with more classes planned to begin this spring!

As a partner with Precept, you are the link connecting these believers with the resources, training, and community they need to know God deeper. Thank you for furthering His global, eternal mission!
