South America: Go Therefore and Make Disciples

Sep 9, 2020

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16

As believers, we are given a calling: to live as Jesus did, to “go therefore and make disciples” wherever we are (Matthew 28:19).

Unfortunately, many of us forget this calling, especially when life gets difficult. For many Christians in South America, the COVID-19 pandemic isjust the latest in a series of crises that have swept across the continent. But this didn’t stop Precept Leaders from going out and making disciples, regardless of their circumstances.

Elizabeth’s Story

Since she was a little girl, Elizabeth knew two things: she loved Jesus, and she wanted to be a teacher. She has dedicated her life to training and mentoring Christian leaders. And because of generous givers like you, Elizabeth discovered Precept, and her entire ministry changed.

Three years ago, Elizabeth moved from an isolated, rural community to Peru’s capital city. One day, while scrolling through social media, she found a local Precept page. They were featuring a study group working through Revelation, and Elizabeth decided to show up for a discussion.

During her first group meeting, Elizabeth realized Precept fit perfectly into her personal ministry. “Precept’s Study Method is practical and key for the formation and training of Christian teachers,” she said. “[It shows you] that the Bible interprets itself.”

After going through more studies, Elizabeth knew this was something she had to share. She was trained as a Precept Leader, and she quickly started leading her own discussion groups and discipling new Bible study leaders.

“Precept’s Study Method is practical and key for the formation and training of Christian teachers.”

This past spring, Elizabeth led a group through the 40-Minute study Breaking Free from Fear. With COVID-19 on everyone’s minds, Elizabeth said the study was “a gift from God” for the whole group, and she feels more certain than ever that these studies are key to equipping both new and experienced believers.

Through studying God’s Word, Elizabeth has grown her personal ministry of discipling Christian leaders. “Praise the Lord! I ask Him to help me continue studying and training with Precept so I can continue teaching others!”

Ana’s Story

When Bolivia went into lock down this April, Ana experienced God’s Word in a new way through Bible study.

Ana is a Sunday School teacher, and she first heard about Precept through friends. Although she was curious, she was never able to make it to a study group, and she eventually stopped thinking about it.

But when COVID-19 hit Bolivia, life changed overnight. Faced with increasing fear and uncertainty, Ana needed somewhere to turn. She heard about a Precept group in her area, and she joined them to study the Gospel of John.

During the study, Scripture came alive in an entirely new way. “This Method has changed the way I study the Bible,” Ana said. “I see details I never saw before.”

After the study, Ana felt convicted and inspired, and she began sharing her faith and mentoring new believers.“Through Precept, I have been challenged to change all of my Christian life,” Ana said.“I have already started a study group!”

“This Method has changed the way I study the Bible,” Ana said. “I see details I never saw before.”

Since learning the Precept Method, Ana’s teaching has changed dramatically in Sunday School. “Now, my teaching method is based on asking questions to my students constantly. This way of studying the Bible is one of the best and most effective ways to study!”

Ana decided to get trained as a Precept Leader. Today, she is helping others encounter the same truth that renewed her faith and transformed her life.

Precept Leaders in South America need your prayers.

Please pray for the local trainers in Peru and Bolivia as they host in-person and virtual study groups. Ask that more believers like Elizabeth and Ana will be trained as leaders and start their own groups in their neighborhoods.

These life-transformations are only possible through faithful partners like you. Thank you for continuing to support His kingdom work!
