The Practice of Prayer: The Rich Delight of Seeking Him

Jul 1, 2026

We Practice What Matters to Us

What can you do when prayer feels more like a duty than a delight?

When your prayers seem rushed... distracted... lifeless?

It doesn’t have to stay that way. You can have a prayer life that thrives.

But it takes practice.

Think of something you love doing. Something that has brought you joy or purpose.

Maybe it’s music, art, athletics, or cooking—any pursuit you care about.

How many hours have you spent quietly plugging away at it? How much unseen effort have you poured into it to get to where you are now?

Anything worth doing well takes time, intention, and repetition. Growth doesn’t happen overnight.

We choose to show up, again and again, not because it’s always fun or easy, but because we believe it’s worth it.

We do it because, on some level, it brings us delight.

Prayer is no different.

We long to be people of prayer, shaped by daily intimacy with God. However, this won’t happen by accident or inspiration alone.

We can cultivate a deep, abiding prayer life through practice.

But many of us struggle to know what practicing prayer looks like.

We want our prayer life to feel alive and connected... yet too often our prayers feel rushed. Distracted.

Distant.

Why Does Prayer Feel So Hard?

Maybe you’ve tried to be consistent in prayer, but you keep getting distracted.

Maybe you’ve walked through disappointment, and your heart has grown weary.

Maybe prayer feels like something you should do rather than something you love to do—more of a duty than a delight.

You’re not alone. But there’s a path to growth.

Practice and persistence matter.

Not performance. Not perfection. But the daily, faithful choice to turn our hearts toward God, moment by moment.

What Does It Mean to Pray Without Ceasing?

In 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, Paul wrote, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

It is possible to live a life marked by these words—a life filled with constant prayer, joy, and gratitude, regardless of the circumstances that surround you.

If you desire to grow in this kind of thriving, prayer-filled life, we invite you to join us in The Practice of Prayer.

It’s a study exploring what it really means to live a life saturated in prayer...

...Not just in quiet, set-aside moments, but also in the middle of your ordinary, everyday life.

You’ll see how prayer can become a constant posture of your heart: a continual practice of drawing near to God, woven into every part of your day.

And when you practice prayer as it’s laid out in God’s Word... you’ll discover more and more of the rich delight that prayer is truly meant to be.
